Before I can to Freedom Chiro in March '09, I had numerous migraines, back ache, numb fingers while sleeping, and frequent acid indigestion.  I was on 5 medications for migraines plus heart burn and cholesterol meds.  In just a month's time (April '09), I am on no medications, have not had heart burn, and my migraines have decreased by about 75-80% in frequency and intensity.   - Barry -

Before I came to Freedom Chiroprcatic, I was suffering from chest pain of all kinds, heart palpataions, migraine headaches, and stomach pains on a regular basis, and I'm only 23 years old.  Doctors prescribed a number of prescriptions that if combined would have been detrimental to my health.  I now have not had a migraine, chest pain, or stomach pain for months.  I'm feeling wonderful and I've even noticed that I rarely suffer from my normal allergies.  Thank you.     - Amanda-

Before I came to Freedom Chiropractic, I was on multiple meds each day.  Currently, I'm down to only taking one medication, I'm 72 years old, and I'm ready to run.  Thank you Dr. Kurt.    -Shirley-

Before I came to Freedom Chiropractic I weighed only 96 lbs, short of breath, and no energy.  I had to quit my job becasue I didn't have the stamina or the breath to continue.  I had stomach issues and while I tried to eat, I couldn't retain any nutrients.  I was involuntarily anorexic and I'm only 5'2".  Currently I am weighing a healthy 110 lbs!!  I'm still on one stomach medication, but I'm not short of breath and my energy level is at 75% of normal and increasing.  Praise God!!      -Susan-

Before I came to Freedom Chiropractic, my posture was terrible (from nursing my 3 sons).  I also suffer from Multiple Sclerosis which has kept me afraid of life, concerned that it would flare up and I might even die.  After being with Freedom for a few years I can say and also see that my posture is great, I'm getting healthier, and I am very confident that I will stay well when everyone is "passing germs around."   - Michael Ann-

My mom brought me to Freedom Chiropractic because I had a big bald spot on the top my head.  I'm only 11 years old.  After getting adjusted by Dr. Kristen and Dr. Kurt, my hair has grown back.  -Tori-

My name is Tom Oxendahl. I am twenty six years old. I live in Colorado Springs. And up until recently, I described myself as a generally sick person. The reason I say until recently is because recently I was introduced to Maximized Living. I would love to tell you right now how much my life has been changed, but I think that in order to explain how different things are for me now, I will have to give a little bit of a back story

 ____________________________________________________________________________________
I do not know where exactly to start, so Iguess I will start from the beginning. I was born in Williston, North Dakota in 1981. From the age of two, I suffered horrible earaches. Under my doctor’s advice, my parents took me in to have tubes put in my ears. Things did not improve. As I got older, I grew used to being sick a lot of the time. I could not go a year without getting Strep throat, and I got the flu several times a year. But that is really the furthest it went. It was annoying being sick all of the time, but I got used to it.

In January of 1991, I grew very sick. I had always been very athletic, but I could not run a block without being winded. I found myself constantly thirsty, and constantly going to the bathroom. I tried to hide it from my parents, but my mother knew everything was not okay. She set up a doctor’s appointment for me. I showed up to the doctor, and he informed me that I was a diabetic. He also told me that if I would have waited any longer, I would have been in a coma, and may have died.

Being a diabetic complicated every illness that I subsequently suffered from. I continued to deal with the usual sicknesses, but nothing bad happened for a while.

When I was thirteen, the toes on my left foot started turning purple. It was incredibly painful. After months of doctoring, the doctors at the Mayo Clinic told me that I had several blood clots in my legs. They also informed me that I had a Lupus like illness that causes blood clots to form in both my veins and arteries. I was put on blood thinners, and told I would have to take them for the rest of my life.

Everything went fine for almost ten years. But then I faced the most debilitating illness I ever had. I woke up one morning, and my left leg was swollen. Having dealt with blood clots for most of my life, I did not think much of it. I figured I would have to be careful, and keep an eye on it over the next couple of days. On the second day, I noticed a small sore, almost unnoticeable, on my left shin.  I covered it with a bandage, and left it until the next day. The next morning, my sore was about the size of a quarter, and because it had grown so rapidly over night, I made a doctor’s appointment for the following day. By the time I got to the doctor, the sore was almost three square inches. They immediately checked me into the hospital, where I spent four days. They did not know what caused them, and they told me keep it covered, and to watch it carefully. But the one sore quickly became four, two on the inside of my ankle, and one on the outside.

The sores were incredibly painful, and I was given a limited supply of narcotic pain killers. I was reluctant to start taking them, knowing the risk of dependency, but eventually, the pain won out, and I started taking them to be able to sleep through the night. When my prescription was done, I had to resort to taking dangerous amounts of over the counter pain medication. They did not take the pain completely away, but they numbed it enough to allow me to sleep.

Over the next couple of months, I saw no improvement. With no idea what to do, my primary physician sent me off to the Mayo Clinic.

At Mayo, they informed me that my blood clotting was keeping blood pooled in my leg, and causing these sores to form, and preventing them from healing. I was put on strict bed rest, and told to keep my legs elevated at all times.

I could no longer work my job, as I was required to be on my feet most of the time. I had to file for a leave of absence, and I started collecting disability income. No longer working, and on bed rest, I started my new daily routine of lying in bed all day. Needless to say, this caused my weight to soar. I had never really dealt with weight issues before, so this was something new. I ended up gaining about 50 pounds. And, because of my strict bed rest, I was not allowed to exercise beyond lifting dumbbells in bed.

The pain from the sores was not getting any better, and now I was dealing with new pains. As a result of lying in bed all day, I developed intense neck, back, and head pains. I was now taking over four times the recommended dosage of pain pills just to be able to function. I knew that this was unhealthy, but I had no choice. It was either take them, or not even be able to even carry on a conversation, let alone doing anything productive with my time.

The sores fluctuated, getting better, and then getting even worse than before. I was on disability, and staring at the walls in my apartment was getting really old. I decided I needed a change of pace, and went down to Colorado Springs to visit my family that lived there. My brother Travis had been telling me about the place he worked, a place called Freedom Chiropractic. He wanted me to come in and have an evaluation done. He assured me that they could help my situation.

“I know this will help”. If I had a dollar for every time someone had told me that, I would be a wealthy man. My father was the one who would have owed me the most dollars. He believed very strongly in homeopathic solutions to problems. I do not blame him for this. He has seen help from his Chiropractor in areas that medical doctors had told him were hopeless. It was just that I had never been helped by anything other than medical science. And I have tried it all. I cannot even count all of the “miracle” natural medicines I have taken. I had taken several pills, drink mixes, and strange concoctions. But all they had done was leave a literal and proverbial bitter taste in my mouth. I had seen several Chiropractors. They all promised me results, and none of them ever helped. Do not get me wrong, if there were natural solutions that worked, I would prefer them to the dangerous prescription medications I had taken in the past and was currently taking. I just did not want to, once again, get my hopes up.

Reluctantly, I agreed to see Dr. Kristen Kells at Freedom Chiropractic. It was there that I first heard the term subluxation. I was still skeptical, but after talking to Dr. Kurt Perkins, I decided that I would give it a try. I was in so much pain that I figured that the worst that could happen would be that things would stay the same. I began my treatments (three times a week), and waited to see what would happen.

Before I continue, let me say again that I was a skeptic. I did not expect this to work anymore than I expected to win the lottery without buying a ticket. But it worked. Within two weeks, I was completely free of all neck, head, and back pain. For the first time in almost two years, I was hopeful and optimistic. I know to some people, this may seem like a small victory. But when you have lived for years in constant pain, something like this is huge. I continued with my appointments, and continued to see results.

The only thing that was not getting better was the pain in my legs. The sores got better, than got worse again. While my pain was getting much more manageable, I was still taking way more than the recommended dosage of over the counter pain pills. I often thought that if I could do to my leg pain what I had done to my other pain, I could really begin to live my life again.

In March of this year, I went to the Mayo Clinic once again for my leg problems. They had placed a stent in my leg to try to alleviate pressure. They checked it, and the clot had reformed inside the stent, making it useless. My doctor tried to go in and reopen it, but could not get trough. He ended the visit by saying, “I’m sorry. There’s nothing more we can do. It’s up to you to figure out what to do next. We can’t fix the problem, because the clotting is too extensive. You need to exercise to fix your health problems, but you can’t exercise because of the sores on your leg. Again, I’m sorry, and I wish that there was more that we could do.”

I was devastated. Not only were they telling me that they did not know what else to do, they were telling me that I had to exercise, but I could not exercise. It was ridiculous. My sores were bigger than they had been the last time. My blood pressure was high. I weighed over 210 pounds. I could not control my diabetes, first because I could not exercise, and second because the pain and stress were causing my blood sugars to be completely erratic. For the first time in my life, I felt truly hopeless.

I went back to Colorado Springs (where I now lived), and continued to go to Freedom Chiropractic. As soon as I got back, Dr. Kurt talked to me, and helped me come up with a beginning exercise program. I started exercising, if only for a few minutes a day. When my medical doctors told me that there was nothing they could do, and I was on my own, my chiropractors helped me come up with solutions. I cannot say how much that meant to me.

About a month had passed, and things were not getting much better. When I went into the chiropractor one day, they told me about the Maximized Living seminar that they were having at the beginning of May. Again, being skeptical, I was reluctant to sign up. But, I spent a few days thinking about it, and I decided that it could not hurt to check it out. I went in that day, and paid my $25 fee to sign up. I did not think of it much until the day of the seminar.

The first thing I thought of when I woke up that morning was, “You know, I really should sleep in, and tell everyone that I slept through my alarm.” But, my conscience got the best of me, and I went to the seminar.

The first thought I had as I sat there listening to Dr. Kurt explain the program was, “This makes sense.” Nothing seemed ridiculous. I am sorry to say it, but that surprised me. I’ve seen too much, and been told too many times that I need to do something crazy to get better. Toward the end of the seminar, I had made up my mind. I was going to dedicate the next thirty days of my life to the Elite Diet, and Maximized Living. Why did I decide this? I did it because I had no other choice. If I did not change my lifestyle, I could not expect anything to get better. I went home, threw away all of my food containing sugar and grains, and started living the maximized life.

It was not easy. It is hard to change twenty-six years of bad habits. But I was dedicated to the Healing Diet, and the results I have seen are nothing short of miraculous. In just over thirty days, I had lost 15 pounds. I was sleeping better at nights. I was no longer in pain. I was down to one small sore on the inside of my leg. My insulin usage was down almost by half, and my insulin resistance was much better. My blood pressure was no longer high. In a few words, I was doing better than I had in almost twenty years!

Remember, I came into this as a skeptic. I did not expect this to work at all. But it did. And that is the bottom line. After medical science told me that there was nothing more to do, I tried one more desperate thing. And it paid off. I now have a new lease on life. I am getting married in August, and, for the first time in my life, I am not worried about starting a family. I had always been scared that I would be dead before I could see my kids graduate, or get married, or have children of my own. I feel that in not a small way, I owe my life to Maximized Living. This program has given me the hope of a long life, and more importantly, a life of quality. I am proud to say that I have not taken any pain pills in over two months! I have now lost 25 pounds, and I feel better every day. Thank you, all of you, for making this possible.

Back in 2004, my daughter (Brianna) was having difficulty focusing on school and had several outbursts over little things at school and at home.  She even got mad at her sister and put her hands around her throat.  If you knew Brianna you would know she wouldn't hurt anyone so these outbursts were disturbing to me and my wife.  Her grades were terrible in school and living at home was sometimes unbearable because you were always waiting on another outburst or fearful for what she may do next.  Finally after an outburst at the swimming pool (where she was competing) she had a bad swim and literately took out on her Mom who was also the coach.  We decided enough is enough and had her checked out by a military medical doctor who told us she had ADHD.  I immediately was shocked and scared due to not knowing what that meant (not an ordinary subject to talk about).  We had a strong relationship with my many of our friends (family like people) who helped us with our struggles in dealing with this.  We saw numerous (helpers), the few who can come to life are (The Magic Lady), she is a lady who started helping Brianna control her thoughts and feelings when the outburst would come, she taught her how to focus on the positive side of things and to use both sides of her brain.

Child Psychiatrist (name withheld), therapy every two weeks and prescription drugs such as Ritalin, and concerta (different dosages) seemed to help her calm her nerves and she was able to somewhat focus on daily activities.  Sometimes she would miss a dosage and I would say things like "did you forget to take your medicine today"?  I remember one time we were traveling to my Moms house and she forgot to pack her medicine, we had to go to the nearest medical facility and have the Child Psychiatrist call and give her prescription to the doctor in Arkansas so we could get her medicine.  She also attended a girl's group session every two weeks for about two years which did help her cope with today's problems for girls her age.

Finally, about two years ago, we at a New life Church Group walk for life event and my wife saw the booth for Freedom Chiropractic Care.  She immediately though of me due to my back injury that occurred back in 1992 while I was deployed to the PGW (Persian Gulf War), so she signed us up for an evaluation at their clinic.  I was still on Active Duty and could not make the evaluation appointment but my two girls and my wife did, I was there for the results and was shocked at the x-rays as to where Brianna's head placement was (she was at a 9 degree angle), where I was told normal should be around 31 degrees.  I was horrified to find out that possibly during Brianna's birth (it was a complicated one), she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her head and was blue when she cane out of the womb.  The Doctor fixed the problem and her color changed quickly but I had no idea that that birth complication could have affected my daughter all these years.  So we immediately joined and have been seeing Doctor Kurt and Doctor Kristen ever since that day some two years ago.

This story has a great ending for now and a bright future for my daughter.  Because we made that decision some two years ago, I am happy to say Brianna is totally off the medication, Grades at school are improving, No sudden outburst anymore, Getting along great with her sister, and even has a few friends at school that she can socialize with.  She has done a complete 180 degree turn around and is more confident today then she has ever been.

Looking back from where we began this journey. Not sure what we were going to do, not wanting my daughter to be on medication the rest of her life, and not sure if she was going to be able to cope with today's problems the world throws at you.  I am confident that she will shine as one of Gods children and will be a blessing to many people in the future.  You know they say God has plan for everyone if you just let him lead the way.  I am so glad that he led us to this place, where you're not just a patient but your family.

Before I came to Freedom Chiropractic, I had severe heart burn every day.  I thought it was job related or food related, however I know now it was subluxation.

After 3 weeks, I can now enjoy heart burn free days, I sleep at night, and eat what I love without having to fear heart burn.    -Gerri-
