Chiropractic Care

Doctor Cahill adjusting female patientYour body has an incredible healing power. It all starts in your brain, travels down your spinal cord and goes out to every nerve allowing all function and healing to progress. Protecting your brain and nervous system is your spinal column. From everyday activities, our spinal column can become misaligned or “stuck”, putting pressure on the nerves which causes a fight or flight response and creating symptoms.

Our job is to find spinal misalignments, remove them with specific adjustments and let your body begin the healing process. Then, you’ll receive home rehab to reeducate your muscles and retrain your body to promote correction and healthy longevity.

An Array of Effective Techniques

Our chiropractors are well-versed in many different chiropractic techniques, and the right technique for you or your child is dependent on the patients health history, assessment and age.

Manual adjustments include Diversified and Gonstead. The instruments we use are an Activator® and the ArthroStim®. A drop table assists in making your adjustments easier on you. Many infants and children will receive low force, specific neurotonal techniques to stimulate the vagus nerve and calm the central nervous system.

Typically, we’ll use a combination of techniques depending on our findings from your examination.

Extremity adjusting is available, too, which can address feet, ankles, knees, hips, arms and more.

Combining With Rehabilitation

When you arrive at our office for your regular visits, you’ll perform traction to loosen up your neck and shoulders. Then, you’ll sit on the wobble cushion to create more movement in your lower back, hips and pelvis. Your specific adjustment will be the next step, followed by standing on the vibration platform while performing specialized exercises to reeducate your neuromuscular system.

You’ll also receive exercises to do at home, complete with all the equipment you need. The goal of this thorough approach is to ensure you correct the problems, regaining your health and saving you time and money.

FAQ

Once I go to a chiropractor, will I always have to go?

This is a widely held misconception, but it’s not accurate. While some individuals initially turn to chiropractic care for temporary relief, there’s nothing wrong with that. What frequently occurs is that many people notice significant health improvements with ongoing care and decide to continue receiving treatments as part of their overall health regimen.

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

Occasionally, it might feel slightly uncomfortable, but generally, the process is entirely pain-free. At Freedom Chiropractic, we employ a technique that utilizes an instrument known as the Integrator. This method avoids any forceful twisting or pushing, ensuring a very gentle experience.

Can chiropractic cure everything?

Chiropractic care doesn’t claim to cure ailments. Instead, its primary goal is to enhance the body’s overall functioning through adjustments, potentially restoring normal function. Essentially, when the nervous system operates optimally, it can lead to improved overall health.

Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?

In our practice, we frequently treat newborns and infants, a concept that might seem unusual to some. However, this approach is highly beneficial. Considering the physical strains associated with childbirth and the minor but frequent injuries children sustain, chiropractic care can significantly enhance a young child’s functional development.

Can chiropractic help with colic and how?

We have seen success with children who have experienced colic and reflux after getting them adjusted. Again, the intention of the adjustment is to help restore proper tone and function to the developing nervous system, so that it can properly engage and respond to the changing environment.

Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?

In most cases the answer is yes. The difficult answer is how many visits will they cover. All insurance companies adhere to a concept called Medical Necessity. What this means is just because you have a benefit provided through insurance doesn’t mean you get to use it. You must demonstrate a need for the service, and not all insurance companies allow you to use your full benefit.

How much does it cost?

This varies widely. There are so many levels of deductibles, copays, coinsurances, etc. What we do in the practice is submit your benefits for review, and present treatment plans that include reasonable billing amounts that fit the operating framework of your provider.

Do I need a referral from my physician?

Most insurance companies do not require a referral. If they do, we will let you know and gather any necessary information from you!

Do you work with medical doctors?

Yes! We understand that a strong healthcare strategy can and should include both holistic and traditional providers. We want to be a part of your healthcare team!

Will I get adjusted on my first visit?

Not typically. We spend a lot of time during your first visit getting a better understanding of your health status and overall goals. This will often include taking X-rays, in addition to our nervous system scans. These diagnostics take time to interpret, and we want to provide you with the greatest level of care possible and offer an accurate prognosis on treatment plans. We typically adjust on the second visit, which is your personal Report of Findings.

Will you suggest exercises or other things I can do?

Most definitely. Your health is like a recipe, made up of several different ingredients. The chiropractic adjustment is a huge ingredient that will move your health forward. With that said, we need to inform and equip you to make better choices in daily habits, movements, etc., to support the change we are trying to make. We will also provide you with orthotic devices if necessary so that you are fully enabled to help improve the function of your spine and nervous system!

Can someone who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?

For almost every case the answer is yes. Especially with the Torque Release Technique that we use in the practice, which utilizes the Integrator adjusting instrument. Every person has a nervous system that needs to function well, even those who have had surgeries. While it complicates things a little bit, we can help maintain aspects of your health that might worsen as a result of back surgery.
