The Benefits of Pediatric Chiropractic

“Why would I bring my child to a chiropractor?”

We do not simply look at your baby’s health through the lens of pain or spinal problems. Instead, we take a neurospinal-based approach that focuses on your child’s overall health, function, and well-being.

Neurological stress often begins before birth. If a mother’s pregnancy is filled with mental, emotional, or physical stress, her body can remain in a constant state of fight-or-flight. The challenge is that mom and baby are deeply connected, and that chronic stress can be passed on to the baby as well.

After this, from the moment they are born — whether making their way through a narrow birth canal or being delivered via C-section or with the assistance of forceps — there is a likelihood of stress or trauma to the nervous system, which may contribute to a wide range of childhood symptoms. Even a natural delivery involves significant twisting, pulling and physical stress. While these all may be necessary to bring your baby safely into the world, the process can place immense stress on the nervous system.

Since a baby cannot tell you when something is wrong, they often show symptoms that don’t look like what you’d expect from someone in pain. That’s why we recommend an evaluation early in life.

A Place Where Kids Can Be Kids

One of the things families tell us they love most about Freedom Chiropractic is how comfortable kids feel here. Little ones don’t have to “sit still and be quiet” the whole time—they get to be themselves.

We also have a dedicated play space, “The Kids Cave”, filled with hands-on, tactile toys such as building sets and train tracks. It’s fun, of course—but it also supports the brain-to-body connection kids are developing as they play. For many families, that welcoming, kid-friendly environment makes walking in the door feel easy from day one.
Our INSiGHT™ scan technology allows us to accurately identify areas that may be “stuck” or stressed within your child’s nervous system. For kids—especially when X-rays aren’t needed or don’t show the full picture—these scans provide objective, repeatable information to help pinpoint where stress may be occurring and allow us to track changes over time.

Through a neurologically focused chiropractic adjustment, using the gentlest, lightest touch, a child’s brain and nervous system can communicate more clearly, allowing them to grow, develop, and flourish.

Ensuring Proper Spinal Alignment

With proper motion, alignment and neurological focus the vagus nerve is stimulated and regulated. This creates less interference with your body’s ability to heal and function. If we begin addressing neurospinal function at a young age instead of waiting for a problem, your child has the best opportunity to experience abundant health.

Once healthy function is restored, many of our pediatric patients are what we call “Well Babies.” They are healthy, thriving kids and don’t have problems but still see us periodically to maintain their health. As your baby grows into a child, trauma occurs daily. It’s a good idea to have them maintain consistent neurologically based chiropractic care, ensuring their spine stays healthy and the neurological communication stays free of interference as they continue to grow.

What to Expect

A consultation and Insight scan are performed. The insight consists of multiple different scans giving us valuable information about every part of your child’s nervous system. Because the scans are non-invasive and quick, kids do great with them—many don’t even realize we’ve started.

Heart Rate Variability, Thermal, and NeuroCore scans are completed, and the findings are combined to give us a core score. This score not only tells us how much stress your child’s nervous system is currently under, it also identifies the specific areas of the nervous system that are “stuck”, causing interference and symptomatology.

All portions of our first consultation and examination are compiled to determine how to help your child regain function and health as quickly and efficiently as possible.

FAQ

Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?

In our practice, we frequently treat newborns and infants, a concept that might seem unusual to some. However, this approach is highly beneficial. Considering the physical strains associated with childbirth and the minor but frequent injuries children sustain, chiropractic care can significantly enhance a young child’s functional development.

How safe are adjustments on children?

This is an often asked question, as people don’t often consider chiropractic adjustments as being needed for children. When we adjust children, it is very gentle, and the purpose of the adjustment is to normalize nervous system function and bring the body into a state of balance.

How old do children need to be before they received their first adjustment?

In a system of healthcare where most people address problems too late, we believe that being proactive is a better method of ensuring optimal function! We perform insight scans immediately after birth to determine neurological stress your baby may be experiencing.

How often should my child be adjusted?

This varies with each case, and also with each stage of development. Most young children do not have abundant stressors in their lives, and our parents tend to work hard on feeding them healthy foods, so they generally need less care than an adult who has years of issues built up. With that said, if a child is experiencing an acute health issue, going through a growth spurt, or other concern, we may see them more frequently. Otherwise, they get adjusted on a normal cycle with their family!
