Dr. Kurt Perkins, DC, CFMP, CCWP
Dr. Kurt Perkins has been helping patients move better, feel better, and live healthier lives for more than 20 years. Since beginning practice in 2004, he has combined chiropractic care with a deep understanding of nutrition, lifestyle, and functional health to help patients not only recover from pain but build long-term resilience and wellness.
His passion for health began long before chiropractic school. As a biochemistry major at Roberts Wesleyan University, Dr. Kurt spent long hours in the lab and noticed something that stuck with him: no matter how sound a cell’s genetics were, it would thrive only if its environment provided what it needed. That observation planted a question that would shape his career. If the environment could make or break a cell’s ability to thrive, could the same be true for a person’s health?
Changing His Educational Focus
A friend suggested he look into chiropractic. Dr. Kurt had never been adjusted himself, but the more he learned, the more it clicked. After graduating in 2001, he went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northeast College of Health Sciences (formerly New York Chiropractic College) in 2004, graduating with a commitment to helping patients address the underlying causes of their health challenges rather than simply managing symptoms.
A Winding Road to Colorado Springs
After graduating, Dr. Kurt took his first position in Bakersfield, California. It was there that he met the woman who would become his wife, a Colorado native. As their relationship grew more serious, Dr. Kurt moved to Colorado, joining Freedom Chiropractic in 2006. He spent several years building his skills there before starting his own practice. Years later, the opportunity arose to return to the practice and reconnect with Dr. Jason, the same doctor who once stepped into Dr. Kurt’s role when he first left. Now Dr. Kurt is looking forward to focusing on what he loves most: patient care.
Discovering Functional Medicine
Dr. Kurt’s approach to care shifted after working with a longtime patient who came in with sudden, severe shoulder pain. An MRI came back clean, so he encouraged her to dig deeper. It turned out her thyroid medication dosage needed adjusting, and within two weeks of correcting it, her shoulder pain improved. That experience, and others like it, led Dr. Kurt to pursue extensive post-graduate education, including certification as a Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner (CCWP) through the International Chiropractic Association and a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP) through Functional Medicine University. His continuing education reflects his interest in how the nervous system, nutrition, movement, metabolism, and lifestyle choices work together to influence overall health.
Patients appreciate Dr. Kurt’s approachable style and his ability to explain complex health concepts in an easy-to-understand way. He believes informed patients are better equipped to take an active role in their own care, and his approach emphasizes restoring function, improving mobility, and helping patients build healthier habits.
Life Outside the Office
Outside the office, he and his wife, Lindsay, juggle the energy and schedules of their four boys and, if that’s not enough chaos, Dr. Kurt also coaches his youngest son’s soccer team.
