Anxiety Care in Colorado Springs

Man with anxietyFeeling anxious from time to time is normal. But when worry, tension, and overwhelm start creeping into everyday life, affecting sleep, relationships, focus, and how you feel in your own body, it’s worth looking deeper at what’s driving it. Anxiety isn’t just something to push through. It’s a signal.

At Freedom Chiropractic, care focuses on improving how the nervous system functions so the body can better adapt to daily stressors. Chiropractic care doesn’t treat anxiety disorders or replace mental health care, but improving nervous system function can be a meaningful part of an overall wellness approach.

What Anxiety Looks Like in the Body

Anxiety is the nervous system’s response to perceived threat. It’s designed to protect you, but it becomes a problem when the body can’t shift back out of that heightened state.

Some people feel constantly on edge, or carry physical tension in the neck and shoulders without realizing it’s connected to stress. Racing thoughts, restlessness, disrupted sleep, digestive changes, and persistent fatigue are all common. Over time, staying in “fight or flight” takes a real toll on the body’s ability to regulate.

Why the Nervous System Gets Overloaded

Anxiety rarely has one clear cause. It tends to build gradually, fed by several pressures at once.
Common contributing factors include:

  • Chronic stress from work, parenting, or daily demands
  • Poor sleep habits that reduce the body’s ability to regulate
  • Physical tension and spinal stress
  • Hormonal changes
  • Increased screen time and sensory overstimulation
  • School pressures and social stress, especially in children
  • Busy schedules that leave little room for the nervous system to reset

When Anxiety Starts Limiting Your Life

Most people manage occasional stress without much disruption. The shift happens when anxiety becomes the baseline, when it gets harder to be present, harder to sleep, harder to enjoy the things that used to come easily. Those patterns deserve attention rather than normalizing.

Regulating the Nervous System From the Root Up

We start with a clear picture of what’s happening in the nervous system. INSiGHT™ Scans provide objective data about how the body is adapting to stress, identifying patterns of imbalance that aren’t always visible in symptoms alone.

Specific chiropractic adjustments encourage better nervous system function and help the body move toward a more regulated state. When the brain and body are communicating clearly, the nervous system is better equipped to process stress without staying locked in overdrive. Lifestyle recommendations focused on movement, sleep, and daily habits may also be part of care.

“Health is not simply about how you feel. It’s about how your body functions. When the nervous system is functioning better, the body is often better equipped to adapt to stress,” says Colorado Springs chiropractor Dr. Jason Cahill.

Anxiety in Adults and Children

For adults, chronic stress and anxiety can affect concentration, productivity, relationships, and sleep. Supporting nervous system regulation helps adults feel more grounded and resilient, even when life stays demanding.

Kids experience stress and anxiety too, and it often looks different in younger age groups. Rather than expressing worry directly, they may show it through irritability, clinginess, or behavioral changes that seem to come out of nowhere. Healthy nervous system function is foundational to how children grow, learn, and adapt. We provide family care with that in mind.

Patient Success Story

Our team has been able to successfully help so many patients in reducing and sometimes eliminating the chronic anxiety of many adults, but a recent success story that really stands out is that of a toddler, Annabelle.

She has been dealing with severe anxiety since birth and any time she was separated from mom she had a potential meltdown. It was becoming overwhelming for mom to be the only parent or adult that her little one would go to and be okay with.

Our Insight Scan technology showed significant dysregulation in Annabelle’s nervous system. Specifically in her upper cervical and Atlas, which has a direct impact on her Vagus Nerve and parasympathetic nervous system (relax, rest and heal side of the NS).

After only a few weeks of neurologically focused chiropractic care, mom told our doctors that Annabelle was now going to dad and grandparents with NO issues and one afternoon in our office while waiting for her adjustment she crawled over to another patient that she did not know, put her arms out and let that person pick her up and hold her! Mom was floored because that would have never happened a month ago. Her anxiety was gone, and mom’s anxiety was too!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can chiropractic care treat anxiety?

Yes, but chiropractic care does not treat anxiety disorders and is not a replacement for mental health care. The focus is on promoting nervous system function, which can help the body adapt to stress more effectively as part of a broader wellness approach.

Can stress affect the nervous system?

Definitely. Physical, emotional, and chemical stress all influence how the nervous system functions. Chronic stress can disrupt sleep, slow recovery, and reduce focus and energy. Addressing how the nervous system adapts to those stressors is central to care at our practice.

Why is nervous system health important for children?

The nervous system governs growth, development, emotional regulation, learning, sleep quality, and immune function. When it’s functioning well, kids tend to be more regulated, more resilient, and better able to meet the demands of school, social life, and physical development.
